Reading is my favorite hobby, but I kick it up a notch in the summer. There's a little more down-time, a little more traveling, and more time to read with the kids. When I was a kid, I remember riding my bike to the library every week, and filling a backpack up with books. I loved getting lost in the fantasy worlds of Betsy-Tacy and Narnia.
This summer, we always have a book on CD playing in the car, and lists of books for each child to read. The library is a weekly field trip for our family. I've been working on the new battle of the books list with my soon-to-be-third-grader (gasp!), and also having fun discovering new favorites of my own. I appreciate libraries that have summer reading incentive programs to encourage kids to read, and at work, I love watching the excitement on kids' faces when they discover a new treasure on the shelves.
Recently, I came upon a website that has some pretty awesome reading lists by grade. So if you need new book ideas for your kids, check out the website here. You may just discover some new favorites of your own!
