Wave by Suzy Lee

from goodreads: In this evocative wordless book, internationally acclaimed artist Suzy Lee tells the story of a little girl's day at the beach. Stunning in their simplicity, Lee's illustrations, in just two shades of watercolor, create a vibrant story full of joy and laughter.

I checked this book in at the library, and just had to thumb through it. I was surprised to find that there were no words in this book. But I quickly realized that no words were needed to tell this story.  Lee's talent with watercolor told this tale effectively enough through pictures. I think anyone who has spent a day at the beach can identify with this book.
Each picture clearly depicted the wonder and excitement of the ocean through a child's eyes. I brought it home to look at it with my children. Needless to say, this book made a big splash with my children. So far, we've made up three different stories to go with the pictures in this book! You can feel the emotions of the day so clearly in each picture.

We also loved the last page where the girl says goodbye to the ocean with a simple wave--a fun tie to the title. Lee produced quite a masterpiece with such simple drawings. I love love love this book.
