Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson

from goodreads:
Marianne Daventry will do anything to escape the boredom of Bath and the amorous attentions of an unwanted suitor. So when an invitation arrives from her twin sister, Cecily, to join her at a sprawling country estate, she jumps at the chance. Thinking she’ll be able to relax and enjoy her beloved English countryside while her sister snags the handsome heir of Edenbrooke, Marianne finds that even the best laid plans can go awry. From a terrifying run-in with a highwayman to a seemingly harmless flirtation, Marianne finds herself embroiled in an unexpected adventure filled with enough romance and intrigue to keep her mind racing. Will she be able to rein in her traitorous heart, or will a mysterious stranger sweep her off her feet? Fate had something other than a relaxing summer in mind when it sent Marianne to Edenbrooke.

I was so excited to get this book for Christmas (yes, my favorite gifts are books!). It's one I'd been dying to read all year, and it didn't disappoint. It had all the components of a great story--a strong heroine, a beautiful setting, a mystery with a twist, and unforgettable characters. I connected with Marianne's need to please everyone around her, and I loved how she discovers that she first needs to be true to herself.

I loved the regency time period and the clean romance. One of my frustrations in books and movies is when the two main characters fall in love without any connection. One day, they are barely acquaintances, and the next, they're madly in love. Those stories aren't very believable, so I appreciated that this book shows the characters spending time together and how their relationship grows. This is a great book--one I wouldn't hesitate in recommending to everyone. I was pulled into the story from the beginning, and couldn't put it down!
