Runaways Volume 1: Pride and Joy by Brian K. Vaughan

From goodreads: All young people believe their parents are evil ... but what if they really are? Meet Alex, Karolina, Gert, Chase, Molly and Nico - whose lives are about to take an unexpected turn. When these six young friends discover their parents are all secretly super-powered villains, the shocked teens find strength in one another. Together, they run away from home and straight into the adventure of their lives - vowing to turn the tables on their evil legacy.

I was introduced to this book by a classmate. I bought it for my son, who is in a non-reading phase, hoping it would encourage him to read. Before I could give it to him, I was drawn in first by the colorful artwork, then by the fast-paced adventure, and had finished it before I knew it! This is such a fun story about friendship, and good vs. evil. Six kids meet together yearly, and discover their parents in a secret meeting plotting their next deeds as super-villians. The teens run away together to try and turn in their parents, only to find that no one believes them. Along the way, they discover more about their parents' identities and more about their own super-powers. I really enjoyed this story, and am anxious to read the next volume.
